Your business may not be able to afford leaving a door hanger at every office, home and apartment in your city, but with some advanced planning on your part, you can determine the neighborhoods and offices that will be most receptive to your message, and spend time marketing to them. To see business growth, door hangers should show customers the benefits they will receive from your products and services, and they should be tailored to the different markets you choose.

1.

Determine your target customers by developing a customer profile. Jot down the average age, income level, gender, education level and work industry of the clients most likely to enlist your business services or buy products from you.

2.

Gather demographic data about your city. In order to make sure your door hangers land on the doors of your target consumer, research your city’s demographics, usually available on official city websites. Find the areas of town that best represent the people in the customer profile you developed. This limits the amount of time and money you spend delivering door hangers to areas that won’t grow your business.

3.

Design door hangers that keep your customer profile in mind. If you have more than one target market, segment your door hanger design by making different versions that highlight the products most useful for each market. This may mean you deliver three different door hangers to three distinct neighborhoods or office suites. You will easily be able to track which areas are most receptive when customers begin to call, email or stop by your business and mention the door hanger they received.

4.

Set a delivery schedule. You may opt for weekend delivery to homes and apartment complexes if you want to catch people coming and going in a relaxed mood. Schedule delivery times during the week if your business services are only offered during the week. Never leave door hangers at a time when customers can’t reach you if they have questions or want to buy your products.

5.

Add a special promotion to your door hangers. Give customers a sense of urgency in contacting you. There are non-cliché ways to stress that certain offers are for a “limited time only.” Try a “launch sale,” “summer specials” or discounts that only apply to certain neighborhoods or groups, such as students, small business owners or kids.

6.

Deliver your door hangers or find a business that specializes in door hanger and flier distribution. Hiring outside help removes the burden from you and your employees and usually guarantees quicker delivery.

7.

Monitor which areas are most receptive to your door hangers, and note which designs and wording are most effective in getting customers to contact you. When designing your next door hanger or flier campaign, this data will help your business spend money wisely.
